Endometriosis Treatment

Endometriosis Treatment

March is observed as Endometriosis Awareness Month. It’s a time to understand this often misdiagnosed, misinterpreted, and complex condition. At Alive Holistic Health Clinic, we take this as an opportunity to raise awareness about what endometriosis pain feels like, the signs of endometriosis, and the potential treatment options available. So, here’s a quick look at this condition and things you must know about.

Some Facts About Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a chronic, autoimmune-related condition affecting the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and pelvic walls. It leads to uterine-like tissues growing out of place and getting inflamed during menstrual cycles, even though they’re outside the lining of the uterus.

The condition can result from genetics, retrograde menstruation, a dysfunctional immune system, and the migration of endometrial cells to other parts of the body. For this reason, endometriosis can also impact the lungs, diaphragm, skin, and brain.

Endometriosis Symptoms

Pain is a common sign of endometriosis, but it doesn’t always relate to the condition’s severity. Even with minimal issues, some women can have debilitating endometriosis pain, while those with severe issues can have no pain at all, or vice versa. The pain often feels like a stabbing, burning, or throbbing sensation in the pelvic area and can radiate toward the lower back and legs. Since these signs are similar to other conditions like menstruation and general discomfort, it can make endometriosis diagnosis confusing and delayed.

In addition, endometriosis isn’t just a painful period. It can also cause inflammation, digestive problems, painful or frequent urination, infertility, fatigue, nerve pain, chest pain, coughing blood, shortness of breath, and mental health issues. You can also experience persistent lower back, abdominal, and pelvic pain, irregular periods, painful periods, severe cramps, spotting, and painful intercourse.

Kate’s Story: Breaking the Cycle

Kate came to us initially seeking help to get pregnant. Not only did we support her fertility journey, prevent miscarriage, and help her have a healthy pregnancy, but she experienced an unexpected side benefit—relief from the menstrual pain she had suffered with for years due to endometriosis. This was a pain she had endured monthly, “sucking it up” throughout her life.

What Kate didn’t expect was that acupuncture would ease this pain that had long been a constant in her life. As she found relief, she also recognized the potential benefits for her daughters. Because there’s a high likelihood that endometriosis is passed down genetically, when both of Kate’s teen daughters, Maddie and Melody, got their periods, they also began to experience painful menstrual cramps due to endometriosis. The pain was so severe at times that it caused them to miss school.

Rather than letting her daughters “suck it up” or rely on painkillers, Kate remembered how acupuncture had helped her. She decided to introduce them to the same treatment. The girls began acupuncture sessions and, as a result, they’ve become happier, more relaxed, and feel more in control of their health. They no longer suffer each month, and acupuncture has given them the ability to live without debilitating pain.

Hormone Treatments Aren’t a Cure

For someone struggling with endometriosis, the most common solutions seem to be birth control pills, pain relievers, getting pregnant, or surgical intervention. But these treatments aren’t all-encompassing solutions. You might experience some relief, but they don’t eliminate the underlying problem. This Endometriosis Awareness Month, we’re advocating for more research, increased awareness, and better treatments to break the stigma around reproductive health and improve women’s quality of life.

Heather’s Story: Holding onto Hope

When Heather came to us, her journey had already been marked by significant losses. After undergoing three endometriosis surgeries, dealing with a low ovarian reserve, and suffering a miscarriage, she was ready to give up. She had bravely planned three back-to-back IVF cycles, but the disappointment continued. Five embryos were tested: four were abnormal, and one was uncertain as to whether it was viable.

It would have been easy for Heather to give up at this point, but she didn’t. She felt determined to carry on, so we decided to increase the frequency of her treatments, holding onto hope for something different. And then, the incredible happened: eight embryos, five of them normal. Heather’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments, hope can bloom. Today, Heather holds her precious child, a testament to perseverance and faith.

Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Can Help

If you’re looking for a more natural treatment for endometriosis, Chinese medicine and acupuncture can be beneficial. These practices have helped many women find relief and have proven results. Acupuncture works to ease the body’s stagnated Qi (vital energy), reduce inflammation, invigorate blood flow, and balance hormones. It also helps improve digestive issues, dissolve stagnation, ease stress levels, and support the spleen and liver to heal overall well-being.

Acupuncture is a popular and safe alternative for managing the signs of endometriosis. At Alive Holistic Health Clinic, we suggest taking weekly sessions for around 2 to 3 months, then gradually reducing the frequency. While there’s no cure for endometriosis pain and discomfort, treatments like acupuncture can significantly improve your quality of life.

We also offer guidance for dietary modifications, herbal formulations, massage therapy, and stress management for a comprehensive approach to healing. The Alive team has helped thousands of women with endometriosis, so you do not have to struggle with this debilitating condition alone. Help is available and is just a call away.
